"Cover Page"

This is my first ever design of the cover page for a book. Author of this book, who fought against the Nazi Germany and the Soviet occupants in WWII, had asked me to design a cover page that would reflect activities of his early life, which he had recorded in this book. The name of the author is Mykola Karpiy and he had written his memoirs in Ukrainian. Hence, all titles are in Ukrainian, too. Cover shows compass needle pointing to the east, where Mykola had been recruiting fighters to fight Nazis, Polish collaborators and Bolsheviks. I have used lines and images that are native to Ukraine and date all the way back to the Trypylian Culture (Bronze Age) to depict that needle. Overall, I think it captures action and eagerness that one associates with war well. Mykola Karpiy is very happy with the cover.
